How Much Does a Website Cost for a Contractor? Real 2026 Prices

By Clau Cave · Published October 20, 2026 · 9 min read

Quick answerA professional contractor website in the US costs about $1,000 to $5,000 one time from a freelancer or a small studio, $0 to $1,300 upfront plus $49 to $449 a month on a subscription, and $12,000 or more with a specialized agency program. The right number depends on how many service and city pages you need, who writes the copy, and whether you own the site at the end.

The three ways contractors pay for a website

Search "how much does a website cost" and you get answers from $16 a month to $50,000. Both are real. They describe different products. For a roofer, plumber, electrician or HVAC company, almost every offer falls into one of three models.

1. One-time build

You pay once for design, copy and setup, then a small amount for hosting and care. A freelancer or a small studio usually charges between $1,000 and $5,000 for a contractor site of one to ten pages. You own the site from day one and can move it whenever you like.

2. Website as a subscription

Little or nothing upfront, then a monthly fee that covers the site, hosting and updates. Contractor-focused providers publish plans from about $49 to $449 a month. It is easy to start. Read the contract for the minimum term and for what happens to the site if you leave.

3. Agency program

A specialized marketing agency builds the site as part of a larger plan, often with SEO and ads. Published prices start around $12,000 for the website alone and can reach five figures a month with marketing included. It fits companies with a marketing budget and a team to manage it.

Price guides that survey the market land in the same ranges. Nopio's 2026 guide for HVAC sites puts template sites from a freelancer at $800 to $2,500 and agency template sites at $3,000 to $6,000. Forbes Advisor lists professional design from $1,500 and hosting from $15 to $150 a month.

What moves the price up or down

  • Number of pages. The biggest driver. A landing page sells one service. A full site gives each service (water heaters, drain cleaning, AC repair, roof replacement) and each city you cover its own page, which is how you show up for "plumber in Brandon" instead of only for your business name.
  • Who writes the copy. Many low-cost plans ask you to write the text. Nopio's 2026 guide puts professional copy at $1,000 to $3,000 when it is sold separately. Ask whether it is included.
  • Photos. Your own photos of real jobs, trucks and team build more trust than stock images. A phone works fine if the light is good.
  • Features. Quote forms, Google reviews, booking, financing calculators, a chatbot, a Spanish version. Each one adds setup time.
  • SEO and tracking setup. Titles, page structure, schema, Google Analytics, Search Console and call tracking. Cheap sites often skip these, and you find out a year later when nobody can say where the leads come from.
  • Ownership. A site on a provider's own platform can be cheaper upfront and hard to take with you. A site you own costs a bit more once and stays yours.

Subscription or one-time: the three-year math

A contractor website usually stays up for years, so compare the total cost over three of them. Here is the arithmetic with the published prices above, plus an estimate of $30 a month for hosting and care on owned sites.

OptionUpfront36 months of feesThree-year total
Subscription at $249 a month$0$8,964$8,964
Subscription at $449 a month$0$16,164$16,164
Starter build at $1,299 plus $49 a month$1,299$1,764$3,063
One-time build at $1,500 plus $30 a month$1,500$1,080$2,580
One-time build at $3,500 plus $30 a month$3,500$1,080$4,580

Subscriptions earn their price when they include ongoing work you would otherwise pay for, such as new pages every month, content or SEO. If the fee mainly covers hosting a site that rarely changes, a one-time build usually costs less over three years.

Running costs after launch

  • Domain: usually $10 to $30 a year.
  • Hosting and care: from about $15 to $150 a month, depending on speed, backups and who handles updates.
  • Business email: Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, billed per user.
  • Optional marketing: local SEO, Google Ads or a chatbot. Add these once the site is converting visits into calls.

Eight questions to ask before you sign

  1. Is the price fixed and written down before work starts?
  2. Who writes the copy, and how many review rounds are included?
  3. How many pages, and can each service and city have its own page?
  4. Who owns the domain, the site and the Google accounts?
  5. Can I take the site with me if I leave? In what format?
  6. What is the minimum contract term, and what happens at the end of it?
  7. Will Google Analytics, Search Console and call or form tracking be set up in my name?
  8. What is the launch date?

What $1,000, $1,500 and $3,500 get you with us

We publish our prices because contractors ask for them first. At Clau Cave we build websites for contractors at three fixed prices, with copy, design and tracking setup included and the site live in 20 days:

  • Landing page, $1,000: one page focused on your main service, built to get calls, with a quote form, click to call and your Google reviews.
  • One page website, $1,500: your whole business on one page: services, areas, reviews, FAQ and contact, with on-page SEO.
  • Full website, $3,500: up to 5 pages for your main services and the cities you cover, with a local SEO foundation.

You own the site, the domain and every account. If you work in Florida, see how we approach web design for contractors in Tampa, and before you brief anyone, read what a plumbing website needs to get calls. The checklist works for most trades.
